Celebrate National Popcorn Day January 19th in NYC

Many people don’t know that the oldest kernel of popcorn was discovered in the “Bat Cave” of Central New Mexico and is thought to be 5,600 years old. Many people also don’t know that tomorrow, January 19th is National Popcorn Day. “If you don’t know, now you know.”

Which I believe is one of the most underrated national food days. Everyone loves popcorn right? So, if you’re in the city, go out with some friends and embrace the holiday with free popcorn. (Free is for me.) I have a list of New York City bars that offer guests free popcorn year-round. I’m challenging you to this popcorn bar crawl, whether you like it microwaved or stove popped, topped with pepper, old bay, or hot sauce. I have something for every popcorn lover from special beer salts to a chef’s secret recipe that includes bacon and ranch.

Treadwell Park – 1125 1st Avenue, New York, NY

Treadwell Park is a great place to unwind after a long day at work. Along with free popcorn guests can enjoy craft beers, cocktails and “New American” bar bites at this hip hangout with ping pong tables and pinball machines. In honor of National Popcorn Day Treadwell Park will be launching “Hops and Horlick’s Malt Salts”. Guests will be able to sprinkle two new beer flavored salts to season their popcorn pieces. Treadwell Park is any beer lovers dream. This Upper West Side hot spot offers 20 draught beers and ciders (which rotate weekly). My advice to order one of the ice cream “Beer floats” and pair it with your popcorn. If you can’t stop by on National Popcorn Day, you still need to have Treadwell on your NYC bar bucket list.
